What is the best camera for nature shots?

I would agree your budget is pretty low for what you want. If that's what you have then I'd suggest a used "bridge" camera (they're called). Actually a bridge is a point and shoot with some SLR type controls. Fuji makes them and they're excellent but new... not for $300... you won't get near one for that.
