What is the best way to become a midwife in NYC?

I have a BFA & I'm considering a career in midwifery. What are the pros & cons of becoming a CM & CNM. What is the better training route for a person with a non-nursing bachelors degree? Can I work in hospitals as a CM? What is the salary range of a CM & CNM? What is a typical schedule for a midwife in hospital, birthcenter or private practice? What is the salary for a private practice CM or CNM?
