Ferrets...?

if you cant keep your ferret in your house where do you keep him during the winter? I plan on keeping hi in the garage in the spring/summer where it is cool and perfect tem for the ferret. If you have any suggestions that would be great. i have a room that was made for the laundry room that we know use as a closet. if i cleared that out would that be ok? or would odor spread throughout the house? thanks so much!!!
