Why do the "popular kids" listen to pop music?

I'm not realy popular or unpopular, and I like alternative a lot. I just notice that all of the most popular kids in my school listen to pop music. Does this happen at your school? If I had to guess I would just ume that they influence each other's tastes to pop, but I dunno. Whatd you think?
