Please help me understand this scottish poem?

Geordie Wabster is always late for school and his teacher asks him for an excuse each time he is late. What follows are several tall tales told by Geordie, much to the chagrin of the the teacher but the delight of the cl ( or reader ) as each excuse is more and more outlandish.
