Loud guy imitates the way I speak?

This guy who usually speaks quite loudly and coarsely is suddenly imitating the way i speak ( softly and more smoothly) whenever we talk on the phone. What does this mean? Is he mocking me ? Does he think I'm snooty/putting on airs and graces? That's so completely untrue though! I AM naturally soft-spoken , unless I know the person well.
